A Plug Valve is a quarter-turn valve using a cylindrical or tapered plug to control flow. It offers quick on/off operation,
reliable bubble-tight sealing, and a full-bore design for minimal pressure drop. Ideal for demanding services like oil & gas,
chemicals, and slurry handling due to its rugged, low-maintenance construction.
Sealing Methods for Cylindrical Plug Valves:
1. Use of sealant
2. Use of plug expansion
3. Use of O-ring seals
4. Use of an eccentric plug wedging into the seat for sealing
Forced lubrication is applied, where a grease gun is used to forcibly inject sealant into the oil grooves between the plug and the valve body, forming an oil film between their sealing surfaces.
The valve body is equipped with a stuffing box. Sealing between the plug and the valve body seat is achieved by compressing the
packing. The screw at the lower part of the body serves to adjust the tightness of the plug-to-seat contact.
The seal between the plug and the valve body seating surfaces is achieved by adjusting the nut underneath the plug.
